Quality control

Traceability and inspection are part of the mechanical scope — not an afterthought.

GPU states that it is ISO 3834-2 certified and operates a Quality Management System with traceability and Quality Control Procedures for welding activities.

Published control methods

Material identification, radiography, endoscopy, third-party inspection and certificates of manufacture for high-pressure installations.

Welding quality

ISO 3834-2 certification anchors the published quality approach.

GPU’s service page states that welding activities are controlled through its Quality Management System and QCPs, with full traceability and compliance to applicable design codes. The company also states that work is carried out to SABS standards.

For any project, the applicable code, inspection plan, hold points, NDT extent and documentation requirements should be confirmed in the project specification and tender package.
01
Material identification

Trace the material used against the project requirement and certificates.

02
Weld quality controls

Apply the project QCP and specified inspection / testing requirements.

03
Inspection evidence

GPU publishes radiography, endoscopy and third-party inspection among its control methods.

04
Manufacturing records

Certificates of manufacture are supplied for high-pressure installations according to GPU’s published service information.

RFQ checklist

Make the quality requirement quotable.

The more clearly the inspection and documentation requirements are defined up front, the easier it is to align procurement, fabrication and site execution.

A

Code

Applicable design and welding standard.

B

Material

Specification, grade and certification.

C

NDT

Method, extent and third-party hold points.

D

Data pack

Required records, certificates and handover format.

Have a client QA specification or inspection plan?

Include it with the scope discussion so the project team can align fabrication, testing and documentation requirements at tender stage.
